Study Abroad in Guatemala

The study abroad Spanish program has been designed for college students who are looking for a very intensive Spanish immersion program during the summer or January term in Quetzaltenango,  Guatemala.

With one-on-one instruction, five hours a day, five days a week, and homestay with a Guatemalan family, students will learn more Spanish than the equivalent of four semesters at any university.  This is the syllabus for Spanish level I, II, III, and IV.

Currents events is an alternative and unique Spanish curriculum for intermediate to advanced students who want to learn more about the social and political situation in the country.

Besides our intensive Spanish program, CX offers daily social and cultural activities which introduce the culture of Latin America to students. Our field trips, excursions, and lectures will widen the students’ knowledge in issues related to poverty,  peace, and war, human and women’s rights, and relations between first-class countries versus countries underdeveloped.

What is more important is students who participate in this program can obtain Spanish college credits from either Seattle Community College or Brookhaven College.

Please check with your Study Abroad office before you enroll in these programs to verify that your university will accept transfer credits from these institutions.

This is our 2015 calendar of daily social, cultural activities & field trips during the weekends.

For almost 30 years, Casa  Xelaju has been working with hundreds of universities from all over the world. Our Spanish program is fully accredited by the Guatemala Secretary of Education.  We excel to provide the best academic experience in learning to students who enroll with us.

Summer Spanish immersion classes start at the end of May and finish the second week in August.  During the first day of class, your teacher will evaluate your Spanish skills in comprehension, listening, pronunciation, and writing.  You are welcome to bring the textbook you are using at your university and Spanish/English dictionary.
