This educational travel tour will include something for every interest. Visits to historic Mayan sites, hot mineral springs, kayaking in majestic Lake Atitlan, a cooking class, markets filled with crafts, jewelry, and textiles,

as well as locally grown fruits and vegetables, hiking into the crater of a dormant volcano to a sacred Mayan lake, a visit to the oldest church in Central America and many more experiences will immerse the traveler in the colorful indigenous culture and the warm hospitality of the Guatemalan people.

Actividades de Casa Xelajú, Quetzaltenango.

During the days in Quetzaltenango, travelers will live with local families who will provide typical Guatemalan cuisine and the opportunity to learn about local customs and traditions as well as giving the travel the opportunity to practice his/her Spanish.

Travelers will visit a rural elementary school where they will observe the classes and talk to local school teachers.

Itinerary: Day 1:  at noon:  Airport transportation to Panajachel, Lake Atitlan.

Day 2: The group crosses the lake to visit Santiago and  San Pedro la Laguna where travelers will have lunch and kayaking. . In the afternoon, the group will return to Panajachel.

Day 3: In the morning, visit the market in Chichicastenango. In the afternoon group travels to Quetzaltenango.

Day 4: Visit the Historic Center of the city in the morning.  In the afternoon, the group travels to Las Georginas, a hot spring in the mountains, and to the town of Zunil to see San Simon, a Mayan Saint.  After returning to Casa  Xelaju there will be a special cooking lesson with a dinner for the travelers.

Day 5:  Hiking to Laguna de Chicabal en San Martin Chile Verde.  In the afternoon a Mayan ceremony with a local shaman.

Day 6: Visit to Salcaja and San Andres Xecul. Afternoon, Spanish classes from 2:00 to 7:00  PM. Salsa classes after dinner. Day 7: Visit  Takalik Abaj, a pre-Columbian archaeological site in the state of Retalhuleu. Travelers will stay at San Martin Hotel, IRTRA.

Day 8: Visit an elementary school in Aldea Vela, San Felipe, Retalhuleu.  In the afternoon travel to Antigua, Guatemala. Day 9: Tour the historic center of the city and visit a museum.  In the afternoon there is a trip to an organic  Macadamia Farm. Day 10:  Return to the airport in Guatemala City.

Cost: US$ 850.00 Tours includes All ground transportation, boat to cross Lake Atitlan, kayaking,  the hotels (double occupancy), breakfasts, entry fees to parks, museums, Spanish classes,

cooking and salsa classes, homestay with a family in Quetzaltenango, three meals a day, taxes, material for Mayan ceremony, and a tour guide.

It does not include tips,  lunches, dinners when traveling away from Quetzaltenango, and airfare from your country to Guatemala.

PAYMENT SCHEDULE: Please send $200.00 to our office in Minneapolis when you send your application.  The second payment April 30, (US$250), and the last payment is due when you arrive in Xelaju.

Please pay your balance of US$300.00 at our office in Xelaju with a personal check.

CANCELLATION POLICY: There is a fee of $50.00 for cancellation after your first payment and second payment. 50% cancellation fee after May 7.
